Always choose the gate that gives you the biggest evolutionary chance to pass through. And if the gates don't provide evolutional chance but damage the time-stream, you should pick the less damaging one to pass through so as to minimalize the loss.

😏 Don't miss a single button!

The buttons along the road enable great damage. You can press them by standing on them. Once the buttons are activated, you'll either see the enemies fall down holes or stumble into spikes. Hence, enemies are eliminated without you joining the fight!
